Having no formal training and working in a variety of employments I came late to painting - in my mid thirties. Despite the challenges this poses it is also liberating as I respond to my surroundings with an untrained, almost naïve eye which seeks to record the direct impact of sunlight and the emotional undercurrent of a scene. My work can be found in North Devon Arts bi-annual exhibitions as well as the Plough Arts Centre and local pubs. My focus is broad but mainly centres around flora and trees, in particular studying how light effects surfaces, the colours it generates and how the 'feel' of a painting can be influenced by colour and composition.
