I've been thinking a lot about the value of getting lost. Wandering in life allows other people to rise up and give you directions, brings you to unexpected places you never knew you needed to visit, and sometimes gives you much better views than the repetitive one of the road you thought you wanted to be on. This painting is a reminder to trust a bit more in the power of our hearts' internal compasses when released from the authoritarian Google Maps of our brains. We don't need to take the quickest route, we don't need to go the most direct way. We can avoid highways, step off the trail, and get lost in the sounds, even if it's scary, even if it hurts.
